FIR: Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri)
Size Grows to 60’
Characteristics Very soft, shiny, bright, dark green needles with a silvery underside. Needles .50 to 1.25 inches long. Excellent needle retention as a cut Christmas tree.
Growing Conditions Full sun not required. Cool, moist, well-drained soil. Northern exposure: North or East side of a hill Will not do well in heavy, wet, clay soils. Does best in native area (NC) from 2500’ and up.
Hardiness Zones Zone 4-7
Uses Excellent consumer demand as a Christmas tree. Also used as an ornamental.
